The way that Knowsley MBC provides services for children, young people and their families is changing.

Knowsley are bringing together all the different agencies and organisations involved in the care, well-being and education of children, young people and their families so that everybody's efforts can be better co-ordinated.

For citizens the benefits are clear - soon it will be easier than ever before to get access to a whole range of different services, including health, childcare and support, in one place within local neighbourhoods. Professional workers will be able to share information so that nobody goes without the help and support that they need. And we will be able to protect the most vulnerable of our children and young people as there will be no 'gaps' between services.

To help them implement and develop this service Knowsley have deployed Digital Pen and Paper to capture information in the field.

Completion of the 12 page form used to take the practitioners hours and the end of the day to re-type in to computer systems, thus enabling it to be shared between agencies. This "desk time" naturally kept them away from the important role of spending time with families and children. Also the delay in retyping meant that important data could not be shared quickly.

Now with Digital Pen and Paper deployed the practitioner simply completes the form as normal but using a pen that records handwriting. This is then sent securely to software that converts handwriting to computer text which in turn is deposited in a purpose built system from Tribal Technology. As this whole process only takes 20-30 seconds the benefits are far reaching, less administration, more face time with clients, and happier practitioners to name a few.
